Tempe's supply is largely buffered from the next round of Colorado River cuts, the Tempe Tribune reported Sunday.

The Town Lake connection is the part longtime residents will recognize. The lake was filled with Central Arizona Project water starting June 2, 1999, which is to say the most visible piece of water infrastructure in the city arrived through the same canal now under pressure. That was a student design exercise at ASU in 1966 before it was anything else.
